I’m very excited to have you meet this week’s guest. There are a lot of great stories in the wine business. Every winemaker has one. (Every wine and vineyard too.) So many of them are great. One of my favorites is from Jason Moore, a talented young winemaker from Texas who bootstrapped himself into the wine business with nothing more than massive love for wine, loads of determination, and a job as a server at a top Napa Valley restaurant.

This week we’re tasting two wines from Sean Capiaux of Capiaux Cellars, the 2005 Freestone Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir, and 2005 Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir. Both are recent Library Wines from Sean’s cellar and are drinking really well. Sorry the video is a little dark.
The 2005 Pisoni Vineyards has a deep ruby color with a purple center. Fresh mushroom, smoky damp earth and ripe black cherry fruit aromas with espresso bean are intermixed in this concentrated wine. On the palate, flavors of blueberries and a touch of anise are spicy, rich and lush with silky tannins, gaining richness and depth on the finish.
2005 Freestone Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir
The 2005 Freestone Hill Vineyard has a dark purple color; Sweet nose of plum sauce, forest floor, and black cherry jam. Spicy tannins, full-bodied texture and silky smooth finish with great purity.
This week we visit Delectus Winery’s new estate in the Knights Valley Appellation. After we check out the vineyard, winemaker Gerhard Reisacher shares three great wines with us: his 2005 Napa Valley Merlot, 2005 Napa Valley Petite Sirah, and 2003 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Notes A tantalizing and elevated nose expresses aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, dustiness, cayenne pepper, huckleberry, fresh tree bark, rosehip, and blood orange pulp. The mouth has a rolling body, the core is refined and firm, and tannins are soft and elegant. An extremely long mouth-feel with a lingering and satisfying finish. What a pleasure! (03/08)
2005 Merlot
Tasting Notes
Aromas of cinnamon, cherry, marionberry, and white pepper fold into dried cranberry, banana-nut bread, and dark chocolate. The palate is round and vivacious and is filled with orange zest, vanilla bean and mineral. Full-throttle, powerful yet elegant, with a long velvety finish. Stellar! (02/08)

More About Modus Operandi
"Modus Operandi Cellars is a wine producer that can be considered the boutique of boutique wines producing only 200 cases of beautiful Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
"My goal is to create a style of Cabernet Sauvignon exuding big, ripe, extracted fruit with a luscious texture, inviting aromatics, integrated oak, and a long - lingering finish. I love powerful wine, so I want to make a wine that demands your attention, pleases your palate, increases the enjoyment of your dining experience, and sometimes, makes you want to enjoy it all-by-itself.
"The small size of my production coupled with the enormous size of my passion allows me the pleasure of giving my wines the most intimate care possible."
